MYSTIC HILLS

/BLOK STUDIO

Mystic Hills is a cabin retreat set in the rugged landscape of Hill City, South Dakota—an area shaped by mining, floodways, and the rocky terrain of the Black Hills. Raised above ground on steel stilts, the structure nods to the region’s mining-era cribbing systems, blending function with symbolism. The design embraces the raw character of the site, with rusted steel cladding that evolves over time, echoing the history embedded in the land.

NOMINN partnered with BLOK Studio to support the design and communication of the project from early concepts through final visuals. We developed a detailed 3D model to explore form, scale, and site integration, helping bring clarity to the structure’s unique proportions and its relationship to the landscape. The collaboration focused on anchoring the architecture within its setting—balancing the industrial tone of the materials with the quietness of the terrain.

The final imagery captures the dual nature of Mystic Hills: resilient yet refined, elevated yet grounded. Our work highlights the project’s layered intent—to honor the past while designing for what’s next—and reflects the thoughtful vision BLOK Studio brought to this remote and meaningful site.
